POOLE'S Izzy Songhurst claimed a bronze medal at the 2023 World Trampoline Championships at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham.

Songhurst was competing in the synchro trampoline event alongside Olympic medallist and newly crowned individual world champion, Bryony Page.

In what looks like a huge step towards confirming her space at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the 24-year-old also claimed seventh spot in the individual trampoline event.

The event, which took place in front of a home crowd for the first time in 12 years, saw 1,000 gymnasts from over 40 countries compete across the three main disciplines and battle it out for the title of world champion.

The pair’s final score of 48.830 meant they were beaten narrowly to silver and gold medals by competing pairs from USA and China.

Both Songhurst and Page are now turning their attention to the 2024 Olympic Games, set to take place next summer in Paris.

Commenting on the championships, Sarah Powell, CEO of British Gymnastics, said: “Izzy and Bryony performed outstandingly to take home the bronze medal, and I’m so pleased for the both of them.

"I take huge pride in knowing that beyond our podium success, our gymnasts have made unforgettable memories here in Birmingham, and inspired so many.”
