PAUL Davis moved to the top of the Cuestars Seniors Tour rankings after winning his first event on the over-40s snooker circuit.

The Wareham cueist did not drop a single frame out of 14 in the third leg on home tables at Greenbaize Snooker Club, Bournemouth.

And he certainly had his scoring boots on with four breaks of more than 40, including a 75 and an 86.

A 2-0 victory over joint second-placed Jason Pusser (Bournemouth) in the final earned Davis £150 in prize money, Pusser taking home £80.

Pusser was earlier involved in the match of the day, a high-quality last-16 encounter with Justin Eggins (Chichester), who opened with the day’s highest break, a classy 91.

Pusser responded with a fluent 51 to make it 1-1 but Eggins unfortunately pocketed the cue-ball on the final black in the third-frame decider.

A staggering total of 19 of the 39 entrants for the event were drawn from two clubs in Bournemouth and six of the eight quarter-finalists were Greenbaize members.

Shaun Hayman (Ferndown), who had a great run to the semi-finals before losing 2-1 to Pusser, and Gareth Samuel (Poole) made the knockout stage for the first time.
