THE Christmas trees may only just be going up, but a Dorset charity is urging people to think about how they will dispose of their decorations.

Diverse Abilities, which supports disabled children and adults across the county, is once again running its tree-cycling scheme for residents in Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch and East Dorset.

Volunteers will be out and about collecting trees to recycle on January 5, 6 and 7, in return for a suggested £5 donation.

Nicole Warrilow, corporate and community manager at Diverse Abilities, said: “This will be the fourth year of collecting and recycling Christmas trees following the huge success of the previous years. Last year we collected 1,000 trees and raised £8,000, thanks to the local community signing up to recycle their festive tree.”

Local sponsors Maidmans Moving & Storage, Keyfort Ltd and Timbers Tree Care are all supporting the initiative by giving up their time and resources to help with the collections, route planning and chipping of trees.
