NEW Terras’ goalkeeper Chris Lewington revealed how former number one Jordan Seabright played a big role in the new stopper arriving at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Lewington’s deal was announced 45 minutes before the start of the Terras’ 2-2 draw with Kings Langley on Saturday, which he began and played the whole 90 minutes.

Lewington, speaking after that match, said: “It (the move) only came about the last day or so, I actually know Jordan Seabright from my time at Dagenham and he knows the goalkeeping coach (Robbie Yates) here and my time at Dover came to an end.

“I spoke to Jordan and he said that there is potentially an opportunity to come and play, so I spoke to Robbie who got me in touch with the manager.

“We just had a conversation about the situation about what is suitable for all parties.

“I’m just happy to be playing football and be here really.”

Lewington was last at National League side Dover Athletic, and has signed on non-contract terms with Weymouth.

When asked if it’s a long term deal, Lewington replied: “We will have to wait and see, I have signed on non-contract at the moment, so it is down to the manager and myself to have conversations and it all depends if I perform well and stuff really.”

Remarkably, the new stopper is based in Kent, and faced a mammoth journey on Saturday morning.

However, the shot-stopper praised the Terras for their style of football, and said that it is an exciting time for the club.

Lewington said: “I’m based in Kent so it was a nice three-and-a-half-hour journey on Saturday, so I have got a nice long journey back. The reason I came here was one, I like the style of football they play.

“We do the right things, it is an exciting time, we are looking at the top end of the table rather than looking down at the bottom, and just to play games really.”

Lewington has found game time hard to come by, and admitted that he shook off the cobwebs against Kings Langley.

Lewington said: “That was my first 90 minutes in probably about 18 months, so it was nice to shake off some cobwebs and get some game time.

“It has been a frustrating 18 months but it is what it is.

“Sometimes it is not a bad thing, it makes you hungrier, it makes you want to play more and sometimes when you step away from it and not playing you can see the other side of it you understand a bit more about the game, about your own performance and really push on that way.”

Lewington enjoyed his debut, and thought that Langley’s reaction to the draw said a lot for the Terras and their position within the league.

Lewington said: “It was fast-paced, exciting. I think every team that comes here, from the looks of it, they (Kings Langley) were delighted to get a 2-2 draw and for a team to come to somewhere and be delighted to get a draw it shows the standard that we are sort of setting and where we should be pushing now.

“We have had some fantastic footballing periods and created some great chances it is a case of progressing and moving forward and me getting used to the style and going on really.”
