PORTLAND’S Stuart Bithell and Dylan Fletcher are set to start their 49er medal race in second place with a chance of defending their World Cup Series Miami title.
They will attempt to overcome Erik Heil and Thomas Ploessel, who begin the day 11.7 points ahead of Bithell and Fletcher.
Elsewhere, Weymouth’s Bryony Shaw missed out on a place in the medal race by one place, in the women’s RS:X race, one place behind Christchurch’s Emma Wilson who managed to qualify.
Weymouth-based Charlotte Dobson and Saskia Tidey are in with a shot of a medal in the 49er FX as they currently sit third in the standings.
Tidey said: “We're pretty happy to have come away from the day unscathed. We have seemed to have broken our Miami curse and we're now looking forward to the opportunity of medals (in the final race)."
