LYME REGIS 3

FENITON 1

LYME Regis wrapped up their season with a victory that would seal fifth place after a one-sided 3-1 victory over Feniton in the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter League.

Lyme went behind early on, when a mix-up saw goalkeeper Will Meech call for the ball, but the striker nipped in, went round Meech and fired in.

Lyme struggled to get going in the first half, but in the 35th minute Cody Bowditch got brought down to earn a penalty.

Ben Vine stepped up to slot it away as the two sides went in at the break level.

Lyme improved a lot in the second half and made it a case of attack against defence.

The Seasiders dominated Feniton, with Rob Fellingham and Mark Bailey afforded a lot of space in the middle of the park.

A good ball over the top saw Vine round the goalkeeper and then fire in confidently.

Vine then scored a spectacular effort, latching onto a clearance from the goalkeeper and rifling the ball in from 35 yards out.

The next evening saw a 1-1 draw between Topsham Town and Witheridge Seconds which denied the latter a chance to go ahead of Lyme.

The match also marked the last game for assistant boss Mark Bevis, who is stepping away from football.
