WEIGHTLIFTERS from Weymouth’s New Body Fitness claimed four first places and three second place finishes at BodyPower 2019, the UK’s largest multi-sport event at the NEC in Birmingham.

Seven lifters competed in the ABPU and BPU Powerlifting Competition and another, Simon Dean, took part in the Rainhill Trials.

The trials are one of the UK’s toughest Crossfit Competition and all eight have now qualified for the world championships later in the year.

Mitchell Flowers, Carly Lawes, Darren Walker and Kane Francis all achieved the first-place medal as well as setting over 10 new British Records between them and became new ABPU/BPU British champions.

The other three lifters, Alice Swain, Josh Walton and Michael Walton also all did brilliantly to take second place in their respective categories.

Simon Dean finished in the top 40 out of over 100 competitors in the Rainhill Trials which is a great achievement.

Nick Bell, owner of New Body Fitness, spoke of his pride in the team

He said: “We are extremely proud of all the team who took part.

“The level of athletes that are coming from this community is unbelievable and it is a testament to all their hard work and dedication.

“They are putting our town on the map in the world of power lifting and fitness and it’s an amazing movement to be a part of.”
