POLICE have appealed for help to identify this man after the theft of a wallet from a woman in her 70s at a supermarket in Gillingham.

The incident took place at around 11.50am on Friday June 14 at the Waitrose store at Chantry Fields in Gillingham.

It is believed two men watched the victim as she paid for items and then one of them approached her to ask for directions.

When the woman got home she realised her wallet had been taken from her handbag. The wallet contained £120 in cash as well as her debit card.

Three attempts were made to withdraw cash using the card from cash machines in Shaftesbury on the same day.

Police urged members of the public to shield their PIN from others when paying for items and to keep their handbags close and secure at all times.

Anyone with information is asked to call Dorset police on 101, quoting occurrence number 55190089956, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
