LYME Regis have enjoyed a superb pre-season, winning all three games so far, as well as numerous acquisitions to boost their squad.

Written prior to their pre-season friendly trip to Chard Town last night, the Seasiders have made a healthy start, capped with a fine 2-1 victory over Ottery St Mary.

Lyme have signed Alex Rocket, Michael Knight and Brett Gartner, as well as keeping the entirety of their squad from last season. Sam Jones and Joe Bond will also be available right from the start of the season this time around, while goalkeeper Lee Cleal has also returned to the fold.

The Seasiders played Ottery St Mary, who play in the seventh tier of non-League football, and beat them 2-1 at home, thanks to goals from Nathan Womersley and Kingsley Wellman.

Lyme then beat Honiton Seconds 5-0, with a brace from Sam Jones and the other goals coming from Rocket, Ben Vine and Ben Turner.

The solid pre-season was then boosted by a 4-2 victory over Paignton Saints, with Joe Bond bagging a brace, Womersley again grabbing a goal, as well as Robbie Fellingham getting on the scoresheet.

Discussing their pre-season, Lyme boss Gerard Hitchcock is pleased with the results to far and is happy with the strength of his squad.

Hitchcock said: “We have been doing fairly well, played three, won three, two of the teams have been Peninsular League teams so good results there because they are leagues above, we played Honiton Seconds and beat them 5-0 as well. It has been a good pre-season. Three or four new signings so we are looking strong.

“It has been good so far.”

Discussing his signings, Hitchcock said “A couple have come back in so it is almost like six or seven new signings.”

Lyme get their Macron Devon & Exeter Premier Division season underway on Saturday, August 17 when they host Chagford at Davey Fort.
