A POOLE CARE home which looks after adults with physical and learning disabilities has been rated outstanding by the government's Care Quality Commission.

Inspectors were impressed by the atmosphere at The Moorings in Parkstone. "Staff had developed exceptionally strong caring relationships with people and genuinely cared for them,” said the inspectors.

“We saw lots of laughter and joking between people and staff with people’s faces lighting up when they were with staff.”

The inspectors noted the 'kind and compassionate manner' of staff and the way they tried to innovate for their charges, including helping one young person go swimming for the first time.

Residents’ bedrooms were “highly personalised”, according to inspectors who noted that residents chose their own décor and furniture. They were recently involved in redesigning the communal garden. The home fitted a seating area, barbecue and boxing punch bag for fitness.

Martin Ashford, Registered Manager at The Moorings, said: “This result is a massive achievement, and is testament to all the staff at The Moorings for their hard work and dedication to those we support. It’s great to have such a fantastic report from CQC that showcases the outstanding work we do and will continue to do here.”
