WEYMOUTH captain Josh McQuoid is “ready to go” after a hamstring injury but remains “cautious” over completing too many matches too soon.

McQuoid, 29, has made one start – in the 2-1 FA Cup loss to Dover – and a handful of substitute appearances since making a low-key return to playing action after sustaining a hamstring injury in the 1-1 draw at Slough Town in August.

Speaking to Echosport, McQuoid admitted he is aiming to “build up” his match fitness in order to become a regular starter again.

He said: “I started the season off alright and then got an injury, which was disappointing.

“I’ve just had to knuckle down and get back fit.

“I’ve obviously come back in the last few weeks and I’m trying to build up that fitness. I’m feeling good and I’m ready to go whenever the gaffer (Mark Molesley) wants to use me.

“I’ve just got to be cautious. I don’t want to rush too many things, but saying that I do feel ready.”

McQuoid’s injury came in the next game after a superb hat-trick in the 4-1 win over Chelmsford.

“It just shows you’ve never got to get too high, or low,” he said. “You can come off the back of (the hat-trick) feeling great and then something like this happens.

“I’ve just had to try and keep level-headed, get on with it, get back fit and then hopefully I can come back and help the team even better.”
