WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley admitted the Terras’ 2-1 MANarama National League South victory over Hampton & Richmond Borough had been “too close for comfort”.

Molesley watched on as his side laboured in the first half, with the Beavers enjoying the better of play as Jake Grey thumped a spectacular 30-yard volley against the bar.

Captain Josh McQuoid and Ben Thomson chipped in with two goals in three second-half minutes which eventually proved sufficient for Weymouth.

However, the Terras were given another fright when former Weymouth striker Jefferson Louis got on the scoresheet with 29 minutes left to play.

Weymouth managed to weather that storm and see out the remainder of the match to extend their unbeaten league run to nine games, moving up to second in the process.

Speaking to theterras.com Molesley referenced the 10-day gap between drawing 1-1 at Eastbourne and this clash as a contributing factor to a below-par display.

He said: “You can’t give excuses but out there at times (the gap) looked like it had (affected Weymouth).

“Whether it broke a little bit of rhythm, I don’t know. There were still enough good bits out there to get the job done.

“From our standards we’re always looking to be the best we can. We know there’s areas to improve on but we were fairly solid.

“It was just a bit too close for comfort for our liking. We didn’t quite get a foothold in the game and take control of it the way I’d have liked being at home. Nothing comes easy – this league is tough.”

With Weymouth moving into second, Molesley downplayed any excitement over rising to second.

“I’m not really paying much attention to the league table at the moment,” he said.

“I’m just paying attention to each game and trying to prepare the best we can and get our processes right. We looked a bit rusty at times but we won.”
