DORCHESTER’S Paul Blake will compete in tomorrow’s T36 400m final at the IPC World Championships after safely progressing from his first round heat in Dubai.
Blake, 29, seared round the track in the United Arab Emirates to record a season’s best mark of 55.85 seconds , just 0.18 seconds behind heat winner James Turner of Australia.
Polish athlete Krzysztof Ciuksza pushed Blake closely for second but had to settle for third in a season’s best time of 55.94.
In the second heat of two, world record holder Evgenii Shvetsov ran 57.73 to win ahead of William Stedman of New Zealand (57.88) and Argentine Alexis Sebastian Chaves (58.45).
Juan Moreno Marquez of Colombia and Sid Ali Bouzourine of Algeria qualified as fastest losers to round out the eight-man final places.
Blake will contest the final tomorrow morning at 6.54am GMT where the Dorset man will be aiming for his second gold of the championships after winning the T36 800m.
