A TEENAGER from Bournemouth will celebrate her 18th birthday with a 15,000ft charity skydive in aid of Marie Curie.

Honor Burgess will be taking on the challenge in memory of her grandmother Irene Burgess who died of cancer two years ago, as well as others who have sadly passed away due to cancer too.

The 17-year-old, who is a voluntary member of the Marie Curie fundraising group in Christchurch, took on the skydiving challenge yesterday, Friday February 14, to mark her landmark birthday.

Speaking before the jump, Honor said: “I have decided to do the skydive because not only is it an exhilarating experience that will get my adrenaline junkie side fulfilled, I want to something that pushes my comfort zone and this is the perfect thing to do for it.

“I feel the nerves may creep up just before the moment, but the adrenaline and excitement will overcome those very quickly.

“Knowing that this charity jump is going to change people’s lives is what is keeping me so courageous.”

Honor, along with her father and sister started fund raising for Marie Curie in the spring daffodil appeal in 2018, the same year she lost her grandmother.

They also take part in the MC Blooming Great Tea Party which takes place every year in August at the Red House Museum gardens in Christchurch.

Honor added: “Marie Curie provides high quality nursing, totally free to give people with terminal cancer and other illnesses the choice of dying at home, supported by their families.

“If families can't be there to support their loved ones, then nurses come out to provide care.

“The nurses that were there for my Nannie before she passed away in January 2018 were amazing, the time they spent with her made all the difference.”
