A POPULAR carol concert has fallen victim to the coronavirus restrictions.

Organisers of Carols in the Cornmarket in Wimborne Minster had cancelled the event due to the large number of people who would usually gather.

It would have been the 15th year if the event, organised by Hilda Butler and Anthony Oliver, took place as planned on Friday December 18.

Anthony said: “In view of the likely restrictions which will still be in force at the time of the event it would be totally impractical to hold the event and under current regulations would we even be allowed to sing?

“We are grateful for the support we have received over many years, both in the way of sponsorship from the Wimborne BID, the Town Council and Optique 2000 and in the more recent years by members of the Broadstone Community Concert Band who have provided the music to accompany the singing and Radio Wimborne for providing the public address.

“And what about those lovely refreshments in the Salvation Army Hall after the event? They will indeed be missed.”

Anthony said he hoped the event can take place next year, on Friday December 17.
