A POOLE-based care home resident who celebrated a milestone birthday earlier this month received 208 cards from the public thanks to an appeal by the care home.

Joan Turner, a resident of The Lindsay Care Home, turned 100 on January 8.

In light of the latest Tier restrictions imposed, the care home asked members of the local community to send Joan a birthday card.

Joan received 208 cards from people across the region, including one from The Mayor of Poole, the Bournemouth A&E department, local councillors and even a few from Scotland, Guernsey and San Francisco.

Home Manager at The Lindsay, Claudia Carvell said: "Our local community has been incredibly supportive over the past year and we’re so grateful for all of the cards and messages we have received on behalf of Joan.

"Joan is very much part of our family and we are honoured to be a part of this special lady’s celebrations."

Joan spent the afternoon of her birthday reading through her mountain of cards and well-received birthday letter from the Her Majesty The Queen.

She also requested a ‘Butler in the Buff’ for her special day, which the home obliged with in the form of a novelty cake.

Joan said: "I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone that took the time to send me a card. Everyone has been very generous and extremely kind, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading their best wishes and congratulations.

"My friends and carers at the home did a wonderful job of organising my special day, I had a lovely time celebrating."
