AN OLD farm grain bin converted into a mobile bar by a Poole man has seen nationwide interest after being aired on a Channel 4 show.

Damon Marshall, 39, who works in events and marketing, created what has been described as the world's first mobile grain bin bar.

The bar, which has been created over the course of three years, featured on the January 14 episode of George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces.

Conversion and filming of the bar took place over several months last year, with the final reveal taking place at Abbots Court Rural Escape.

Damon said: "This opportunity came about purely by chance. I have always been interested in building, being an innovator and creating things, such as quirky buildings and conversions.

"An encounter with an architect led me to his grain bin tiny house and I fell in love with it. I later found six grain bins on offer in Essex so I made an offer and bought four of them.

"Moving and collapsing the bins was not as easy as expected but I knew it was never going to be easy."

Once Damon had purchased the bins he began brainstorming ideas of what to create, but came up short.

That was until his partner Carina George, a Senior Account Manager at Bournemouth & Poole College, found an opportunity for Damon.

He said: "Carina saw the advert for George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces programme which asked if people were building anything amazing or quirky. I sent some emails and photographs and I was told that a bar seemed like a great idea.

"A week later Channel 4 sent a producer and cameraman down to Poole to see what I had.

"Filming of the conversion began in January 2020 but I dislocated my thumb while skiing in February, which meant that everything was put on hold. If Covid hadn’t happened, I would have had to have pulled out because of my thumb, but Covid meant that filming was on and off.

"The programme was an amazing opportunity."

Damon has thanked Abbotts Court Rural Escape, Cinemattag, Rabbit & Rose and Rodeo Events for their help in the programme.
