THERE is still no reopening date in sight for a library which was forced to close because of flooding, the council has said.

Boscombe library, in Heathcote Road, closed on November 29 after rain leaked through a hole in the roof and caused damage inside.

Residents have been unable to access the library since, due to damaged carpets and the computers being switched off after the "substantial" leak.

As reported, BCP Council said it is in discussions with the landlord of the building to get it back open, but an exact opening date is still unknown.

There were hopes it would be open again on January 18, after ward councillor Patrick Canavan said he was told he could hold his surgery there.

He described the temporary closure as “incredibly inconvenient” for residents who are having to use libraries elsewhere.

This includes in Charminster, Southbourne, and Bournemouth.

Cllr Andy Martin, portfolio holder for customer, communications and culture, said last week he expects work to be completed "in the next few weeks".

Meanwhile, the future opening times of all libraries across the conurbation remains uncertain after BCP Council announced it may have to slash its hours.

Hours could be cut by an average of 10 hours a week, at each library, from April, which could save the authority £440,200 in the 2024/25 budget.

Grass cutting, CCTV cameras, paddling pools, and tip opening hours are all set to be impacted later this year, subject to a consultation's findings.
