EMERGENCY services rushed to Boscombe Pier last night to rescue a woman during a concern for welfare incident. 

Police were called to the pier, at the end of Sea Road, shortly before 10pm on Tuesday, January 30. 

A woman had been seen on the pier and entered the water around an hour later. 

The Coastguard, which included Southbourne and Poole teams along with Mudeford RNLI, rescued the stricken woman. 

Police have said she was given the appropriate care afterwards. 

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We received a report at 9.43pm on Tuesday 30 January 2024 raising concern for the welfare of a woman believed to be in the Boscombe area.  

“Officers attended and the woman was located at Boscombe Pier. 

“Coastguard, RNLI, fire and ambulance services also attended and it was subsequently reported that the woman had entered the water at around 11.10pm. 

“She was taken to safety by the coastguard and was given appropriate care.” 

A spokeswoman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service added: “We were asked to attend Boscombe Pier at 10.42pm last night (30 January) in support of a police incident. 

“A crew from Springbourne and a technical rescue team from Poole attended, and the stop was at 11.20pm.  

“The aerial ladder platform from Westbourne was also mobilised but was turned back on arrival.”
