Bespoke family jewellers to open in Bournemouth town centre

After huge success on Winton high street, KH Jewels will be bringing their expertise to Albert Road. 

Mother and son, Kim and Keir Hurley, launched the business in December 2021 saying that they “did not expect much but it just went wild.”

“We have outgrown the space now,” said Kim.

The new store will be opening further jobs including GIA Gemologists and qualified goldsmiths, as well as a security guard.

“We will be having security here and kitted out with cameras,” said Kim.

“My husband is ex-military so we will be training people on self-defence too.

“It is not just to keep the staff safe but the public too.

“If you have more businesses here [Albert Road], it will deter criminals.”

Along with pre-made and pre-loved jewellery, the shop also has specialists onsite to offer repairs, resizing, engraving and bespoke pieces.

“We do stuff that you cannot believe, we think outside the box,” said Kim.

She added: “Customers give us the craziest ideas and we love it, so we give it a go.

“I love a challenge and it helps that I have very qualified staff.”

Keir works in the business as a Diamond GIA Graduate whereas Kim is a semi-retired pharmacist.

Following a car accident Kim took a step back from her full-time career and instead utilises her science knowledge in jewellery.

Discussing the controversial state of Bournemouth town centre, Kim said she is not concerned for her new business venture.

“We have the most loyal customers, who are extremely loyal to us,” said Kim.

“We already have our customer base, I’m not relying on people walking past and coming in.”

However, Keir acknowledged the benefits of also having a town centre site: “This is a better place to sell jewellery.

“People buying gifts for Christmas or birthdays do not go to Winton they go to the town centre.”

The pair said it is an exciting time to be opening in Bournemouth and are already preparing for their grand opening.
