SUNSEEKERS determined to make the most of this weekend’s heatwave will struggle to find a bed for the night in Bournemouth.

With temperatures set to peak on Sunday at 29C (84F), rivalling many Mediterranean hotspots, and sunny forecasts for well into next week, many cliff-top hotels are already full and rooms are running out in other parts of town.

Bournemouth’s sizzling temperatures are set to rival resorts including Lanzarote, Benidorm and Gran Canaria.

Kevin Wood, Director of the Oceana Hotels Group consisting of the cliff-top Cumberland, Suncliff and Cliffeside hotels, said: “It just shows what a heat wave can do for us all here in this wonderful town; it’s going to be a cracking week.

“Even our rooms for Sunday night and Monday are flying off the shelf; we are full on Tuesday and Wednesday already.”

His sentiments were shared by Bournemouth Accommodation and Hotel Association chairman Paul Clarke, manager of Menzies East Cliff Hotel.

He said: We are full; our 67 bedrooms have all gone, and the Carlton Hotel is also fully booked this weekend. The good weather is certainly helping to boost trade; we’re just hoping it lasts. Both hotels are full next week as well.

“Business on the East Cliff is significantly up year on year; it’s going to be a really strong July compared to last year when the weather was absolutely shocking.”

Bournemouth Tourism’s marketing and events manager Jon Weaver said: “Bournemouth will be buzzing this weekend with thousands heading to the town to enjoy the seven miles of golden sands and the many other attractions on offer. We are looking forward to the hottest weekend of the year.

“We are hosting the Future Cheer Convention, the largest cheerleading convention outside the US, which will see 16,000 people coming to town. We encourage people to call hotels before they arrive as there will be last minute availability and people can pick up some great deals.”

As supplies of weekend accommodation in Bournemouth dwindled, search engine booking.com was offering rooms at just one hotel; a two-star establishment charging £1,119.98 for two nights in a double or twin room, plus breakfast.
