BRIDPORT Reserves’ manager Shaun Annetts admitted he has had second thoughts about continuing in the Bees’ hot seat after suffering a 6-0 defeat at Westland Sports in the Dorset Premier League.

Henry Lawrence-Napier bagged a brace and Sports’ tally was boosted by goals from Josh Payne, skipper Jamie Green, Szymon Matuzewski and Dwayne Forshaw.

But Bridport were beset by goalkeeping problems and fielded Mark Tozer after Billy Fleet pulled out, before Kriss Radivojsa replaced Tozer after the veteran sustained a shoulder injury.

Speaking to the Bridport News, Annetts was clear that his side had to begin earning points.

He said: “I’m embarrassed by the scoreline. If we had a fit keeper things would have been different. We’ve got some important games coming up and we know we have got to put more points on the table.

“I did have a thing about whether someone else should have a go. I do enjoy working with the lads and I’m sure that we can get some results sooner rather than later.”

Bridport made a good start to the encounter, boosted by the inclusion of first-team players Alan Hill and Dan Peach, and could have been 2-0 up in 20 minutes. But when Westland opened the scoring, Bridport were in trouble.

Annetts said: “It was a decent ball, the striker ran forward and hit a diagonal ball over the back four. Their forward Josh Payne timed his run beautifully and got a header at the back post.

“About 10 minutes later they got in behind us, pulled the ball back, Mark got to the ball and it spilled up and fell so kindly to their striker to tap it over the line.

But disaster struck when Tozer jarred his shoulder early in the second half.

“Westland spotted he was struggling and our defenders stood still for a cross and they got the third. They scored again from an aerial ball and then I put on Kriss who offered to go in goal.

“We gave him a backpass, he scuffed his clearance and it went straight to the centre forward who took a touch and slid it in. Then they hit a wonderful curling shot to make it six,” Annetts said.
