FALMOUTH TOWN 6

Johnson 35, J Annear 41, Ward 45, Brabyn 62, T Annear 67, Bowyer 84

BRIDPORT were dumped out of the FA Vase first round after being handed a 6-0 thumping by Falmouth Town.

Three goals in each half sealed the defeat for the Bees, which is their largest at home for nine seasons.

Bridport had started well, and had their first real chance inside six minutes when Mark Salter failed to get on the end of a ball across the six yard box from Dan Peach.

Leighton Thomas then forced the Falmouth’s Ryan Barnes into a save after 15 minutes.

Chris McGrath was replaced shortly afterwards due to a persistent hamstring injury.

However, Falmouth responded and forced Bridport goalkeeper Jason Hutchings into a save a minute later.

Thomas saw a cross go over the bar and on to the Falmouth net, but the Ambers were having chances and they would soon sharpen up to devastating effect.

Firstly, Luke Johnson rounded Hutchings to fire in after 35 minutes.

Six minutes later, Falmouth had their second when Jordan Annear’s rebounded shot bounced off his own legs and into the net.

In blustery conditions, a ball headed back into the box by James Ward evaded everyone and went over Hutchings and into the net to give the visitors a dominant first-half lead.

Bridport held firm for the first 17 minutes in the second half but the Ambers found their goalscoring edge once more as Luke Brabyn nodded in to make it 4-0 after 62 minutes.

Five minutes later, the visitors made it five as Tom Annear broke away and fired past Hutchings.

Falmouth completed the rout after 84 minutes, when Jack Bowyer fired in to make it 6-0.

Bridport are next in action when they host Hengrove Athletic in the Toolstation Western Premier Division.

Bridport boss Adam Fricker said: “It was not an enjoyable game, to be perfectly honest.

“I think the easiest way to sum it up is that we got exactly what we deserved.”
