HOLT UNITED 0

DORCHESTER SPORTS 1

DORCHESTER Sports picked up a massive three points at Holt United in the Dorset Premier League with a 1-0 win thanks to a Jason Read header.

Sports started with a new 5-3-2 formation and the shape worked in the early stages with the visitors having more of the ball as they outnumbered Holt’s midfield two.

However, Sports were forced to change personnel as they first lost Patrick Thomas to a cut head on 15 minutes and captain Lewis Amor after an unpleasant tackle.

Substitutes Alex Gould and Richard Beasley settled quickly as Sports kept pushing but were unable to create any clear-cut chances.

The Bulls were the closest to taking the lead when Nathan Saxby turned and shot but Antony Frost tipped over to keep the scores level at the break.

Both teams come out second half looking to win the game and Frost was again in fine form by tipping over a Tom Gagan shot and then another long-range effort from Saxby but it was Sports who got the all-important goal when Joel Hewitt was brought down about 25 yards out.

Gareth Wills’ free-kick was fizzed in to the box and found the head of Read whose header smashed the back of net to give his side the lead. Jamie Quinton could have sealed the game for Sports but his shot was hit straight at the home stopper.

Frost denied Luke Homer late on and the Bulls’ captain had a free-kick struck into the Sports’ wall in the 96th minute as the Dorchester defence held firm to pick up a much-needed win.

Dorchester manager Ashley James said: “It was a massive win.

“It was a fantastic performance and it was just a really pleasing afternoon really.

“It is a very difficult place to go and especially to go there and keep a clean sheet.

“I don’t think many teams will keep a clean sheet at their place with their front line. So to go there and keep a clean sheet and nick a goal at the end is the perfect afternoon really.

“We could not ask for anymore.”

Dorchester Sports are next in action when they host Gillingham Town on Saturday (3pm).

Sports: Frost, Gatehouse, Hill, Read, B Thomas, P Thomas (A Gould 15), Amor (Beasley 31), Samways, Will (Quinton 78), Hewitt, Rawlings
