HAMWORTHY REC 5

DORCHESTER SPORTS 1

DORCHESTER Sports suffered a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Dorset Premier League leaders Hamworthy Recreation.

Gareth Will got on the scoresheet for Sports in the second half, but it was the first period that did the damage with the home side going in at the break 4-0 up.

The home side did not take long to get up and running, when Carl Edwards slotted in a rebounded shot past Anthony Frost in the Sports’ goal.

Sports responded and had a good 20-minute spell, with great saves from the Hamworthy goalkeeper Aaron Robertson from Joel Hewitt and Lewis Amor.

However, Rec then stepped it up another gear and scored two quickfire goals.

Firstly, Sam Carter slotted in after Frost had parried a shot, before Carter grabbed a quick brace following a good run and cross from John Webb.

The match was wrapped up on the stroke of half-time, when John Webb slotted under Frost’s legs, following a good move from George Webb and Ash Boyt.

In the second half, Will bagged a consolation goal with a free-kick after 64 minutes.

This prompted another good spell from Sports, however, Will was then sinbinned for 10 minutes after dissent.

The pick of the goals then came as George Webb fired in a fantastic strike from outside of the box to complete the hammering.

The game then fizzled out as Hamworthy saw out the comfortable victory.

The result sees Sports at ninth in the table, with 21 points from 12 games, while Hamworthy continue to stroll through the league, being seven points clear at the top of the table.

Sports boss Ashley James said: “It was a difficult, difficult afternoon.

“We were beaten by the better side, no excuses really.

“We just did not turn up in the first half and I am really disappointed.

“They are a very good side, they taught us a good lesson in passing and finishing.

“We did not have any answers to what they were putting at us.

“We got better in the second half, we showed a bit of character.

“It could have been a cricket score in the second half but we dug in and improved.”

Sports travel to Swanage Town & Herston on Saturday (3pm).
