NEWTOWN 2

LYME REGIS 0

LYME Regis fell to a 2-0 defeat at Newtown, despite manager Gerard Hitchcock describing it as ‘probably our best performance of the season’ in the Macron Devon & Exeter Premier Division.

Dale O’Donoghue scored a brace for the hosts in the second half that proved the difference between the two.

Lyme started well and before long a great move with a good bit of play from the midfield, a ball out wide from Robbie Fellingham was crossed in but Sam Jones missed with his weaker foot from eight yards.

Lyme also had a few near-misses but could not find a clinical touch.

The two sides went in 0-0 at half-time but Lyme started well again, and were the stronger side for the first 15 minutes.

However, O’Donogue cut in and got past two players before bending the ball into corner after 60 minutes.

Lyme got themselves together and Ben Vine forced their goalkeeper into a great save.

However, Vine was caught on the ball and O’Donoghue got forward and sealed the win with the second goal.

Hitchcock said: “It was not fully deserved, to be honest, probably a draw would have been a fair result but those fine margins as such.

“We came away empty-handed but it was probably our best performance of the season.”

Lyme travel to Exwick Villa on Saturday (2.15pm).
