DORCHESTER Sports’ boss Ashley James revealed his side has remained sharp before tomorrow’s Dorset Premier League clash at pointless Sturminster Newton (2pm) by playing a midweek friendly after a bye weekend.

James’ men visited RNAS Yeovilton and contested a 3-3 draw with Ryan Ross bagging two goals and Jamie Quinton also netting for the Dorset outfit.

Speaking to Echosport, James was delighted his playing squad topped up their minutes.

He said: “It was a good workout for us with some much-needed minutes for players and the reserves played on Saturday so every member of our squad got minutes.

“We won’t underestimate (Sturminster), we’re not in the best form ourselves – we’ve lost two on the bounce.

“We’ve got to go there positive and confident we can get a result. Hopefully if we play as well as we can, we’ll do that.”

“We seem to play a lot better when we get the first goal, we’re a completely different side. If we’ve got it, we control the game. If not, we’re kind of chasing it and not playing it as well as we can.”

James confirmed that prolific goalscorer Jamie West will be available for the contest having scored 50 goals for the club in the 2016/17 season before sustaining an ankle injury that kept him out for 16 months.

He said: “It’s a massive boost. He’s played two reserves games and scored five goals already. We’re delighted he’s back fit now.”

Jamie Samways (thumb) will be absent for another month, but Sports otherwise possess a fully-fit squad.
