MARK Molesley admitted he was “a bit gutted” but saw the positives as Weymouth fell to a 2-1 defeat at Kings Langley in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

The Terras saw debutant Jordan Rose sent off after 18 minutes, with Weymouth a goal down due to Steve Ward’s early strike, but managed to equalise through Calvin Brooks after 47 minutes before Luke Wade-Slater won it.

Molesley said: “I’m a bit gutted, a bit disappointed but it wasn’t to be our day unfortunately.

“I think we played very well considering we had 10 men.”

Molesley bemoaned the slow start, which saw Weymouth a goal down on four minutes, after a free-kick given away by Rose to earn his first yellow card.

Molesley said: “It was a slow start from us and we paid the price by ultimately conceding a goal which is disappointing, but it sparked us into life.

“I felt like we were looking really dangerous particularly from set pieces.”

After going a goal down the Terras grew into the game, but the match turned sharply in Kings Langley’s favour in the aftermath of the rapid sending off, which followed a penalty appeal for Weymouth.

Molesley said: “We looked like we were going to get back into the game and then Calvin (Brooks) has chased onto a long through-ball, he clearly got to it before their keeper.

“He (Brooks) got scythed down and the referee has decided that it is no penalty and from the resulting clearance unfortunately Jordan has mistimed his tackle on Rene How and picked up a second yellow.

“So in the space of 10 seconds the game has got turned on its head, which is disappointing.

“It is fine lines, it has gone from thinking we were going to be taking a penalty to being down to 10 men.

“But that is football, these things happen.”

Molesley emphasised his pride in the subsequent performance he saw from his side, that saw them beaten only by a fantastic finish from Wade-Slater from distance.

Molesley said: “I was really proud of the boys about how they dusted themselves down and got on the ball and we played really well.

“If we are going to lose, there is a way to lose, and I thought we played really well.

“I was proud of the boys, the way the responded, despite the setbacks of going 1-0 down and down to 10 men.

“When we got the equaliser I thought we could go on and win it but unfortunately we got pegged back by a wonder strike.”

Molesley bemoaned his side’s luck but said they will look at the positives before turning their attentions to hosting Salisbury tomorrow (7.45pm).

Molesley said: “I think maybe we did not quite get the rub of the green but we will dust ourselves off and we will go again.

“There are plenty of positives out there.”
