SEABOROUGH trainer Harry Fry took a hat-trick of winners in racing action last weekend.

Jolly’s Cracked It late scored on Friday before Black Mischief won the Betfair Best Odds Handicap Hurdle at Haydock piloted by Richard Johnson.

If The Cap Fits then added the finishing touches by winning the valuable Grade Two Coral Hurdle at Ascot.

Speaking on his website blog, Fry said: “Black Mischief was outpaced when the tempo quickened rounding the final bend and his chance seemed to have gone as he trailed the pack.

“But we know he stays well and Richard Johnson did not become champion by giving up on lost causes.

“He kept pumping away, the horse kept responding and despite a tricky moment at the final flight they passed several horses on the flat to claim an improbable triumph.

“Less than an hour later we were celebrating another fine victory as If The Cap Fits came home strongly to beat Old Guard in a stirring finish to the Coral Hurdle.

“That put an end to any thoughts of switching him to fences this season though earlier in the week we were far from sure to be running him at Ascot.

“But once he schooled well on Thursday morning it was all systems go. I was worried the race came a bit too soon after Wincanton and he certainly didn’t travel through the race as powerfully as he usually does.

“Yet despite being on and off the bridle his jumping was much slicker and we saw a different side of him as he had to dig deep and tough it out in the closing stages.

“Afterwards Noel Fehily was very keen that we should take If The Cap Fits to the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton. Further ahead the Aintree Hurdle in April is a target I have already discussed with Jason Maguire who is racing manager for owners Paul and Clare Rooney.

“It’s important to note that after an unfortunate hiccup in the spring, which caused him to miss Cheltenham this was only the horse’s fifth start over hurdles so hopefully we have much to look forward to with him.”
