STEVE Thompson could not fault his Dorchester Town side after the Magpies thrashed lowly Staines Town 6-1 in their Evo-Stik Southern Premier South encounter at Wheatsheaf Park.

Thompson watched on as Dorchester ran riot in Middlesex with two goals apiece for Tom Blair and Antonio Diaz adding to strikes from Ross Carmichael and Cameron Murray.

Dorchester could have piled more misery on bottom side Staines, who scored late on through Thomas Gogo, were it not for a Louis Dixon penalty save from Blair or Callum Rose crunching a shot onto the bar.

Speaking to Echosport, a delighted Thompson sought to put perspective on the victory at the struggling Swans.

He said: “We played well and they’re obviously in a little bit of turmoil at the moment, but you still have to beat them and we beat them comprehensively.

“It was a good performance and I’m pleased with the result, no complaints.

“We got a little bit sloppy second half and to be fair a goal was coming, we gave away a few too many chances second half for my liking.

“I can’t fault the lads, they’ve worked very hard for 65-70 minutes and we just seemed to be a slight bit tired in the last 20.”

In scoring six goals, the victory was Thompson’s biggest win away from home as Dorchester boss, but the former Yeovil manager refused to get carried away.

He said: “I’m not thinking of it like that. They are in trouble.

“They haven’t played for three weeks and there’s a bit of turmoil at the club.

“We’ll see how they get on against other clubs. They’ve got Frome on Saturday.”

Dorchester’s third successive league win precedes their FA Trophy first round tie at Eastbourne on Saturday (3pm).
