DORCHESTER Town winger Tom Blair hopes to have “proved a point” after the teenager’s sparkling display helped the Magpies defeat basement side Staines Town 6-1 at Wheatsheaf Park.

Blair, who prior to starting against the Swans had made two appearances from the bench following his four-game ban for a second sending off, scored twice and assisted two goals at Staines.

With striker Ben Seymour currently serving his own three-game suspension, Blair was keen to grasp his opportunity.

He told Echosport: “It’s nice to come back into the starting team after my suspension.

“Luckily I got my chance through Ben’s suspension so I just wanted to show what I’ve got and that I’ve not gone downhill since I’ve been out, I’ve been working hard.

“I proved a point, I hope, and it was nice to get two assists and two goals and contribute to a massive three points, especially on a cold Tuesday night.

“Sometimes those sorts of games can be quite difficult, especially against teams down the bottom struggling.

“I thought they might have come out of the blocks quite quick, but luckily we got the (early) goal and came home with the three points.

“It was nice to get on the scoresheet.

“I’ve not really got as many goals as I wanted to for Dorchester, so hopefully this is the start of a few more.”

Blair, who took his career Magpies goals tally to 12, described the “buzz” in the Dorchester ranks after their third straight away win and feels the victory sets his side up perfectly for the FA Trophy first round clash at Eastbourne on Saturday.

He said: “In the camp there’s a real buzz about it. The Weymouth games was a bit of an eye-opener for people, especially for us.

“They played quite a strong team and we did really well. We kicked on from there beating Gosport 4-1 with a convincing win and then (Staines).

“Hopefully we can use that momentum of games, wins and confidence and hopefully come away with a win on Saturday.”

He added: “All the lads have said (Eastbourne) are not doing that well. I think we’re on a better run of form than them.

“In those sorts of games it doesn’t matter what league you’re in, in cup games anything can happen.

“I definitely think we fancy our chances but they’re in a higher league, at home.

“If we go there at our best we will definitely do a job on them. They’ve got a 3G pitch as well which is nice, it suits us pretty well. There’ll be no surprises.

“Hopefully we can minimum get a draw and bring them back to Dorchester.”
