HAMWORTHY REC A 0

UPWEY & BROADWEY 4

UPWEY & Broadwey avenged an earlier 4-1 defeat at the hands of Hamworthy Recreation A by thrashing the Rec’s second string 4-0 in Dorset League Division One.

After Rec dominated the first 15 minutes, Steve Reynolds’ side had to wait until the 34th minute to break the deadlock but once they did, the floodgates opened.

Upwey’s new signing Matt Roberts, snared from Dorset Premier League side Balti Sports, lit the blue touch paper for the visitors in his second game for the club.

Upwey forced a corner following a rapid counter attack and Roberts rose highest to slam a header home from Aaron Bill’s pinpoint delivery.

Just seven minutes later, in-form marksman Tom Cherry claimed his first goal after latching on to Will Walden’s through ball and firing across the keeper into the far corner for a 2-0 half-time lead.

Reynolds’ men continued to exhibit their flowing football after the break and Cherry maintained his lethal form in front of goal by netting his 12th goal in 11 league games to make it 3-0.

Goalkeeper Harry Reynolds pulled off an excellent save and Upwey once more countered at pace as a move containing just five passes sliced through the Rec defence before Cherry finished to deadly effect from the inside left.

Adam Hanger, who had been moved up front to partner Cherry, was then rewarded for his persistence by forcing the Rec defence into a mistake and pouncing to score on the hour.

Speaking to Echosport, boss Reynolds was delighted by his team’s act of vengeance for their heavy defeat earlier in the season.

He said: “It’s a superb bit of revenge. The speed we move the ball around on the floor – it was a beautiful pitch up there – was quick, almost one or two-touch football.

“We just tore them apart on the break, I couldn’t have been more pleased.

“The whole side, the work rate was superb, I couldn’t knock any of them.”

Upwey next face fourth-placed Stalbridge today (2pm) after sustaining a 5-0 thrashing back in October with an under-strength side.

Reynolds said: “We’ve got Stalbridge at home today and we went up there with a very weak side, they gave us a bit of a pounding.

“I think they might find a bit of a difference.”
