DORSET 3

GLOUCESTERSHIRE 1

DORSET claimed a superb comeback 3-1 victory over Gloucestershire at home at the Specsavers County Ground, for their fixture in the South &West Counties Championship Competition under-16 section.

Both teams impeccably respected the minutes silence in aid of Dorset Council member Slobodan Skakich (Ska) who passed away on January 9.

Dorset, with the wind in their favour, started the stronger and went close early on.

However, Gloucestershire took the lead against the run of play after just five minutes when Kian Gardiner showed great skill down the right to put in a teasing cross which Dorset could only turn into their own net.

Dorset responded immediately, when a good run through the centre from Eliot Jones ended with him rifling an unstoppable shot from 30 yards into the back of the net.

Gloucestershire nearly re-took the lead only for the Dorset goalkeeper Harry Phillips to make a great save low down before the resulting corner was headed against the bar.

Dorset were using the wind to their advantage and went 2-1 in front after 33 minutes.

A booming long kick from Phillips went all the way through to Neemo Nixon who slotted home ruthlessly under pressure.

Gloucestershire were unable to grab an equaliser and Dorset headed into the break a goal up.

In the second half Gloucestershire were on top, but could not break though the Dorset defence.

Dorset were relying on the counter attack, while Gloucestershire were searching for an equaliser. Dorset would extend their score after 75 minutes, when Nixon broke past two players before crossing to Cameron Munn to score.

It was an entertaining game from both teams, played in some testing conditions, but Dorset claimed the comeback victory.
