BRIDPORT A 9

MAIDEN NEWTON &C 1

BRIDPORT’S A team confidently swatted aside Maiden Newton & Cattistock in a huge victory in Division Two of the Dorset League at St Mary’s Field.

The home team went into the game feeling confident after knocking the visitors out of the Dorset Intermediate Cup earlier in the season, and were for the first time this season able to field an unchanged winning team from the week before.

Both teams started at a frantic pace, with the visitors having the wind on their backs and had several attacks on the home goal.

However, after riding the early pressure, the home side powered themselves in front after a strong strike from Jaydon Scadding was blocked but he was able to slot in the rebound.

Bridport then took control of the proceedings.

Harry Fleet was starting to find his feet again in his second game back from a long-term injury that has seen him missing for a couple seasons at the club.

He controlled the midfield, and the home side soon increased their lead from a well-taken Rowan Kirkbride goal.

However, this woke up the visitors seeing them carry out some strong quick passing attacking football, and if they had been more clinical when in front of goal they would have been level by the time they finally did secure their only goal making the score 2-1 as the half ended.

The second half was a completely different story, as this time the home side had the wind well and truly in their sails, and with Harry back on in the middle and with Riley Weedon controlling the right side of the pitch, the home side had attacking options from every part of the pitch.

Following a powerful Ali Kamara run, a penalty was awarded which Jaydon Scadding coolly converted, before another goal soon came from a looping Callum Middleton free-kick slipping under the visiting goalkeeper.

The floodgates really opened after this, as the home side gave the visitors a torrid time of relentless attacking football. The young Bridport lads looked so comfortable and playing with such confidence and belief in their ability, and further goals soon came from Kamara, Billy Evans, Kirkbride, Weedon and George Wyrill as the home side ran out convincing 9-1 winners.

Bridport A now sit third in the table, two points behind leaders Gill Dons, who have played four games less.
