ANDREW McDermott was condemned to his first defeat of the season after Stewart Masters claimed a 4-2 upset in the Weymouth ADC League.

The night also saw the shock of the season as bottom-of-the-league Shaun Lampard stunned the reigning champion Sam Ward by whitewashing him 4-0 in their opening contest.

Paul Dormer should have ended McDermott’s unbeaten run in their opening match after leading 3-1, but Dormer missed the big 16 twice to give him a chance at tops letting in McDermott to claim the draw.

However, a 4-2 win over Jordan Caughlin after the loss to Masters meant McDermott ended the night with a win.

Four 180s apiece from Trevor Honnor and Mel Burton in their matches accounted for eight of 19 hit on the night with Honnor’s finishing matching his high scores.

Honnor was red hot in his opening 4-0 win over Stewart Masters as every leg was taken out in less than 18 darts, while Burton and Honnor shared a storming match between them where both hit 180s and a match that saw Burton come out with a 4-2 success.

Honnor ended his evening with a 4-1 win over Paul Paice.

Burton’s other two results ended in the same scoreline with a 4-2 over Caughlin before somehow battering Ward but coming away with a 4-2 loss.

Ward had a massive scare in his second match after coming off his defeat to Lampard, Ward was then two down against Simon Sharpe before hitting a 14-dart leg and two 180s to get back in it and then claim the next three legs and victory.

Danny Aplin took full advantage of slips ups by the players around him, claiming another three victories and 100-plus shot-out along the way.

Starting off with a 4-1 win over Terry Tucker, Aplin then hit a 104 out-shot in his 4-1 win over Mark Samways, before ending the night beating Stew Masters 4-2.

Tucker bounced back brilliantly after his opening defeat to claim two great victories, as he beat Chris Burton 4-1 and then Nathan Smith 4-2.

Andy Masters claimed three wins on the night and moving him up to fourth in the table, as he beat Butler 4-0, Lampard 4-2 and then Samways 4-1.

It was a disappointing night for Samways, who has been unplayable at some points over the last couple weeks, but suffered defeat in all his matches as Caughlin won their contest 4-1.

Wayne Jordan and Arnie Quinn shared the spoils in their match, as both hit two 180s on the night and had a 4-2 victory apiece against Drew Tweedy and Dave Butler respectively after opening fixture misfortunes.

Jordan had a well-fought draw against Smith while Quinn tasted a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Chris Burton.

Despite a fantastic 150 check-out from Scott Gannon, he suffered a 4-2 defeat to Dormer, but a very scrappy and low scoring contest in his opening match did however see Gannon pick up a 4-2 success over Sharpe.

He then claimed another win with a 4-2 victory over Butler before a 4-2 defeat to Adam McKay.

Butler’s only highlight of the night came when he hit a 114 out-shot in his defeat to Quinn.

Smith rubbed salt into Dormer’s wound, who was still smarting from not defeating McDermott, with a 4-1 triumph.

Nigel Davis had one of his better nights drawing two and winning the other, while a great match from both him and Paice saw them rightfully share a 3-3 draw in their contest, this after leading 3-1 against McKay who fought back for a draw.

180s: Honnor (4), Burton (4), Jordan (2), Quinn (2), Ward (2), Lampard, Smith, Davis, S. Masters, Aplin.

100+ out-shots: Gannon 150, A. Masters 120 & 115, Butler 114, C. Burton 115, Aplin 104.
