BRENDON King says his Portland United side will be aiming to pick their chins up off the floor when they host Fareham Town in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division tomorrow (3pm).

Portland again face numerous players out, with at least seven missing for the Blues.

Shaun Bessant, Alex Godfrey, Darren Watts and Harry Hutchinson are all out injured, while Jamie Symes and Ed Bastick are away and Max Buckler is suspended for Portland.

King said: “It is what it is, there is no point moaning and winging about it.

“We can do that all day long but we have just got to get on with it and try to pick the chins up off the floor at the moment.

“It is really important that we try and finish the season on a high and get some wins and try and finish as high as we can, that is what we are working really hard for all year.”

King want his side to make a bit of luck and show a bit of pride, as his side face a battle to hold on to fourth place, with Hamworthy United behind the Blues now only on goal difference.

King said: “For the last two months for one reason or another it has not been happening for us. The only way that we can get through that is to start working a little bit harder and try and make a little bit of our own luck again because we have not had a lot of luck if I am honest.

“But you make your own luck and we have not been doing that so it is all about showing a bit of pride.”

Portland are on a difficult run of form, having lost their last five league matches, which includes a 1-0 loss at Fareham during that time.

The Creeksiders have lost their last two games but prior to that had been on a nine-match unbeaten run in the league.

King said: “We went up there the other week where we came away with a loss where we probably deserved something out of the game for sure.

“That is what I mean at the moment things are not happening for us, we are not getting that little bit of luck when we need it, chances are not going in so we need to just regroup and get a performance in.

“They are not a bad side, they went on a really good run, I think they lost on Saturday but up to that they were 10 unbeaten so they had a bit of a resurgence.

“They have got some useful players, especially up front so it is going to be really important that we try and get something out of the game and give everyone a bit of a lift.”
