BRENDON King admits Portland United are preparing for their cup final day ahead of the Blues hosting Bashley in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division tomorrow (3pm).

Portland face Baffins Milton Rovers in the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup on Monday, May 6 and King hopes the Blues can play their way into a bit of form ahead of it.

King said: “It is going to be another tough game so again, we will be looking to improve on the last two performances.

“Regardless of the result we will just be looking to build on our performances of the last two games like I said and preparing for the final really.

“We are looking at formations and players and seeing what is best and trying to get a little bit of form into us before the final.

“Hopefully the last two games have shown a little bit more of where we want to be leading into the final.”

Portland currently sit fourth in the table, two points ahead of fifth-placed Hamworthy United, but fourth is the highest they can finish, sitting seven points behind Bournemouth with two games left.

The match against Bashley represents the first part of two games in three days for the Blues, with their season closer at home to champions Sholing following on Monday.

King praised the Bash, and said that on their day they can beat anyone.

King added: “We have got two to play, Bashley at home.

“They are a difficult side, they are quite a young and energetic side.

“I actually think they are quite a good side, they are a little bit inconsistent but I think on their day they are capable of beating anyone.”

Portland should have Jamie Symes back for the encounter.
