SHERBORNE II 100 (10pts) lost to DORCHESTER II 109 (17pts) by nine runs

DORCHESTER Seconds snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with a nine-run win over Sherborne Seconds in County Division Three.

An inspired fast bowling performance from Tom Caines saw the paceman rip through Sherborne’s batting order, claiming superb figures of 6-21 from eight overs.

Electing to bat first, Dorchester lost wickets steadily as only the in-form Josh Foot (44) 15-year-old Billy Baker (18) and Simon Joslin (20no) proved resilient as Dorchester were ousted for 109.

In reply, Sherborne were not prepared for the fire and hostility of Caines and he made inroads in his first couple of overs with four batsmen clean bowled along with two sharp catches at slip by Andy Vernon and Rohan Scott.

Scott, Foot and Matt Porter all chipped in and it was left to Ben Alford to keep his nerve and take a smart catch to win the match.

Tidy ground fielding from Remy Wood and Fin Barge also featured as the youthful Dorchester side took an unlikely win.
