BRIDPORT won the under-12s competition as Maiden Newton Youth Football Club hosted their eighth annual football tournament as a total of 30 teams competed in the various age groups.

Bridport also saw success in the under-nines and were runners-up in the under-eights.

Portland claimed the top spot in the under-eights, while Dorchester claimed the under-10s.

Spectators at the event were gifted with some excellent football on display and the added excitement of evenly matched teams providing nail-biting ties, with many of the knockout games being decided by the narrowest of margins.

Event organiser Steven May praised the “great family atmosphere” at the tournament.

He said: “The event was a huge success. It is always so pleasing to see our community playing fields full of children enjoying sport and with parents, grandparents and siblings supporting all competing teams, the day certainly had a great family atmosphere, which totally fits in with our club ethics.

“I would like to thank everyone that helped us out along the way and on the day, a real team effort from all the volunteers.”
