PORTLAND Sports Under-14s achieved an outstanding third place in the Komm Mit Trofeo Meditteraneo International Cup in Malgrat de Mar, Spain.

There were 15 players that travelled with their team of managers and family members to play 11-a-side matches against teams in the under-15 age group with Portland one of two teams representing the United Kingdom in the competition.

Sports played four group games over two days against German and Albanian-based teams to move into the knockout stages. Working tremendously hard as a team they won all four group matches – conceding just one goal.

Sports won their last-16 game 2-0 to move into the quarter-finals.

On the final day of the competition, the boys won the quarter-final game against another German team 2-1 to reach the semi-final against an Argentinian academy team from Buenos Aires who ranged in ages between 15 and 17.

The team played fantastically to keep their Argentinian opponents to 0-0 at half-time but sadly lost out 2-0. Argentina then went on to win the competition.

Sports clashed with an Israel-based team to determine third place, winning the game for a well deserved result and a trophy.

Portland returned home having already won the league to compete in the Dorset County Cup and League Cup finals winning both games to complete the treble for the third year running.

Next up is the national finals in Nottingham on Saturday, June 22 where Sports will represent Dorset.

Team manager Danny Nash would like to congratulate the lads for such a fantastic season and thanks the parents for such great support and commitment.

Sports would like to thank the following sponsors: Real World Services, Dorset Embroidery and Portland Skips.
