HOLT UNITED 1

DORCHESTER SPORTS 4

DORCHESTER Sports produced a superb display to beat 10-man Holt United 4-1 away in their Dorset Premier League curtain-raiser.

Jamie West looping a shot home from 20 yards after 25 minutes from Gareth Will’s pass but the Bulls levelled immediately with a header from the home number nine.

However, centre-back Shane Jackson was shown a second yellow card for chopping down Will when clean through.

After an even first half, Sports capitalised playing down the hill when Will finished off West’s cut back on 55 minutes before Will turned provider for Alex Stafie to curl home.

Pat Thomas then supplied West for a one-on-one, the striker slotting home confidently with 20 minutes remaining.

Speaking to Echosport, Sports’ boss Ashley James said: “First game of the season you’re never quite sure what they’re going to be like, not sure whether you’ve done enough.

“To win on the first day is a great start and hopefully we can continue against Blandford.”

“The midweek games are slightly more difficult than a normal Saturday game,” insisted James. “Not many teams go down to Balti and get a point – we won’t be underestimating Blandford at all. It’ll be nice to get back playing at home and hopefully we can pick up another three points.”

Dan Peart, signed from Bridport, comes in with Ash Smith. Darren Watts (work) and Adam Wash (groin) miss out.
