PORTLAND United manager Brendon King urged his side to do the “horrible things” against Cowes Sports in their Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division clash at the Weyline Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

King’s men have won their past four games in league competition, most recently an impressive 2-0 victory at Hamble Club on Tuesday to move into fifth spot.

The Blues face a Cowes side languishing in 17th of 20 teams and King is keen for his players to show no mercy in attempting to continue their winning streak.

He told Echosport: “We’ll be looking to take certain aspects of the (Hamble) game into (Cowes). It’s really important you back wins up like that.

“We’ve got to do those horrible things you’ve got to do to win football matches. I know that if we match them physically with our work rate we will create enough chances and score goals.

“It’s that mindset of making sure everybody’s on it and not being complacent and doing the right things we’ve been speaking about.”

On Cowes, King added: “They’re going to be leaving 10 o’clock I would’ve thought, it’s a long trip and they have to get on the ferry.

“They’re not coming here to make the numbers up. First and foremost we’ve got to win that battle and make sure they go home on the ferry with nothing to show for it.”

Portland defender James Cox is available after missing the Hamble contest.
