BRIDPORT EVOLUTION 50

BG SUNS 47

BRIDPORT Evolution upset Division Two leaders BG Suns 50-47 at Beaminster Sports Hall.

Donning their new kit, Evolution ground out a hard-earned but deserved victory.

In an equal first quarter, the early exchanges pointed towards a very physical game while great interchanges between Evo’s Chris Canham and Eric Robertshaw showed a sign of things to come with the hosts leading 14-11.

Bridport did not get going in the second quarter with the Suns scoring eight unanswered points. Evo eventually found their groove with Tom White scoring some strong lay-ups although the Suns finished the half 23-22 up.

Evo were encouraged in the third by the returning Craig Sorrell plus White and Robertshaw who all combined well with some fantastic baskets. Evo were stronger on defence and this was going to be a big factor in the next quarter.

The third finished with the Suns 37-34 up following a successful late three-point effort.

Bridport showed their mettle in the early stages of the fourth quarter as solid defense and lightning-quick offense saw Evo overtake their opponents.

Evolution were also gelling on defense with some strong rebounds by Jack Trivett and Dean Ormsby.

Bridport were passing the ball around quickly and accurately, tiring out the Suns.

With the Suns in foul trouble, Evo would have been uncatchable if their free throws were more accurate. Sorrell hit three three-point shots in quick succession putting the game just out of sight for the Suns.

And, with 10 seconds to go on the clock, a steal from White made the job impossible for the Suns as Evo won 50-47.

Bridport next face Southbourne Donkeys on Tuesday, November 26 at Beaminster Sports Hall (7.15pm).

Entrance is free and supporters are welcome.

Scorers: Craig Sorrell 20 (MVP), Tom White 10, Eric Robertshaw 10, Chris Canham 7, Dean Ormsby 2, Jack Trivett 1
