STURMINSTER MARSHALL 1

BRIDPORT RESERVES 0

BRIDPORT Reserves exited the Dorset Senior Trophy at the second round stage as Sturminster Marshall took a late 1-0 victory.

In wet conditions, neither side created a chance of note in a goalless the first half.

Sturminster, who play one league below the Bees in the Dorset Senior League, were unlucky to see Luke Goddard’s effort smack against the post before Will Gage missed a header.

Marshall keeper Tom Rees saved well from a Robin Jones free-kick and the hosts were rewarded when Bridport gave possession away 10 minutes from time.

The Bees were caught on the counter and substitute Jordan Fisk was able to round Jordon Scadding and finish well.

Late on, Rees was called upon to paw out a firm Brandon Scadding header as Sturminster survived to pull off an upset.

Speaking to the Bridport News, Bees’ boss Shaun Annetts said: “I was bitterly disappointed not to have got a result, I felt we should have done, but fair play to Sturminster, they’re not at the top of their league for nothing.”

Bees: Jo Scadding, Ja Scadding, B Scadding, Hyett, Gall, Leader, Jones, Handyside, Middleton (Lowden 85), Weedon, Hunter (Strelley 46). Sub not used: Harvey.
