SAM Ward tasted his first two defeats of the season in the Weymouth ADC League.

Dorchester’s Ward lost 4-1 to an inspired Stew Masters and 4-1 to Danny Aplin.

Masters played well, hitting 16 and 18-dart legs in the process and Aplin hitting a 15-dart leg and 112 checkout to condemn Ward to further misery. Ward did however taste victory on the night with a 4-2 win over Terry Tucker.

Aplin produced some great darts claiming two other victories with a 4-2 win over Andy Masters in which he produced 14 and 15-dart legs and a 180.

Aplin also managed a 108 checkout in a 4-2 win against Dave Butler. However, things did not go perfectly for Aplin as he fell to a 4-1 defeat to the solid finishing of Ian Lloyd.

Lloyd had a fantastic night, claiming three victories from three, with two punishing 4-0 victories against Dave Butler and Nigel Davis. He also produced 110 and 115 checkouts amongst these victories.

Davis looked a picture in his Remembrance Day darts shirt, but could only manage a 3-3 draw against Paul Dormer in his only point gained.

Dormer himself picked up three points from a possible six, hitting two maximums and a 15 and 17-dart leg in his match against the classy Simon Sharpe.

Sharpe has a habit in bringing out the best darts in his opponents. Dormer’s defeat on the night came via new table-topper Andrew McDermott.

McDermott won all three matches on the night with seven of the 15 legs being 18 darts or under.

The highlight was the closely-fought 4-2 win against Simon Churchill, with both players hitting 14-dart legs, and Churchill himself missed five darts at double four for the draw.

Churchill’s night was not all bad with two victories including a 4-1 win against Simon Sharpe, plus hitting a 156 and 106 checkouts in a thumping 4-1 victory against Stewart Masters.

Mel Burton carried on his good form picking up three triumphs which included a 4-0 victory over Matty Betts in which Burton was 100 per cent on the doubles.

He did however come on top in the battle of the Burtons as he overcame brother Chris 4-2.

Chris Burton’s night did not get much better as he lost 4-0 to McDermott, but managed to secure a point in a 3-3 draw with Guy Paddock.

Paddock himself was the draw specialist on the night with all his fixtures ending 3-3. Paddock is starting to show some form and show why he belongs in the ADC.

One of the draws was against Bazza Stratford who himself had a decent night of darts hitting two 180s and taking the scalp of Drew Tweedy.

Stratford did however fall to a 4-2 defeat in his final game to Mark Samways. Samways went undefeated on the night, winning three matches and drawing one.

Billy Short endured a tough night having to play five fixtures, and picked up two good draws against Paul Paice and Trev Honnor.

After last week’s first victory of the season, Betts stepped up with three victories from four games to push himself up the table.

Scott Gannon was unlucky in his 4-2 defeat to Andy Masters as he was 2-0 up but made amends with a 4-2 victory over Billy Short.

Arnie Quinn helped his cause with two maximums and two wins from three to help in his hunt for a top-12 finish.
