BRIDPORT EVOLUTION 63

BOURNEMOUTH UNI 76

DESPITE a strong team effort, Bridport Evolution’s first game of the new year ended in a 76-63 defeat to a strong Bournemouth University team.

The first quarter told the story of the game. Bournemouth’s shooting was consistent from the off as they hit a number of three-pointers that kept them slightly out of Bridport’s reach, ending 27-19 up.

Evolution came out of the traps in the second quarter with Craig Sorrell and Chris Canham combining well for a number of unanswered baskets.

Bridport got the score down to a one-point game with some strong defense, trying to keep the students at bay but the University boys stayed 43-37 ahead going into half-time.

The third quarter started well with Sorrell sinking two three-pointers with no reply.

Unfortunately this did not start a changing tide and instead seemed to energise the visitors as they started to pull away despite the best efforts of the Evolution defense who ended 60-52 down.

Bridport started the final quarter well, with buckets from Armands Mogilevcevs and Jack Trivett but another flurry of unanswered points from Bournemouth saw the game slip out of Evo’s reach.

Despite defeat, Evo remain at the summit of the league and are raring to go for their next encounter.

Evolution: Sorrell 25, Canham 12, Mogis 8, Trivett 8, Rich 4, Hughes 2, Robertshaw 2, Ormsby 1, Gray 1.
