PORTLAND United manager Brendon King is again beset by a selection headache for the Blues’ trip to Bashley in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division tomorrow (3pm).

Midfielders Max Buckler, Alex Halloran and Ryan McKechnie plus defender Crit Clarke are unavailable, while defenders Ed Bastick and Luke King have one-game suspensions.

Captain Sean Stewart is also a doubt with a back injury.

Commenting on the situation, King said: “We’ll have to see what we’ve got player-wise, I think we’ve got six missing.

“Ed and Luke had bans that would’ve been cleared if last week’s game was on.

“It’s cost us this week. Unfortunately now we pay the price – I’d have had two players back and instead of missing four I’m missing six.

“It doesn’t help us in that situation. To say the cancellation hit a raw nerve, you can say that again.”

On paper the clash looks a testing affair for Portland as Bashley, who have won eight of 12 home games this season, come up against a Blues side with just two wins from seven away days.

King said: “It’s always tough going to Bashley – we’ve had some good games up there.

“They’re a funny old side. One day they’re world beaters and the next minute they lose games.

“It’s tough when you miss a week, play a week. You don’t get any momentum and can’t get into your stride.

“You can train as much as you like but there’s nothing like game time.”
