DORCHESTER Town manager Leigh Robinson has asked for patience from Magpies’ fans as he looks to bring in experienced players to beat the drop.

Robinson’s men are currently bottom of the BetVictor Southern Premier South ahead of today’s visit to Hayes & Yeading United (3pm) with just 17 games to play – nine points adrift of absolute safety.

With a youthful squad, Robinson has already brought in the wise defensive heads of Nathan Walker plus Jamie Laird and is keen to make similar signings.

He told Echosport: “Trying to improve the squad drastically like we have to do, as I’m keen to stress to the supporters, at this time of year in the position we’re in is fairly difficult.

“Players are naturally wary of coming to a side in our league position. If you want to sign the really experienced players that this team needs, you pay over the odds.

“We don’t want to do that – we want players that want to be here. Really, what we’re looking for is players that have got a bit of a point to prove.

“People might look at Jamie and say ’he was great a couple of years ago, where’s he been?’

“But this is what we’re after, people that are desperate to prove they can still play at this level.

“In our current situation that’s the current attitude we’ve got to focus on.”
