Portland travel to Wiltshire side Amesbury tomorrow (3pm) in a game where the Blues will be strong favourites.
Amesbury sit bottom of the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division, whereas King’s side are comfortably mid-table.
Portland will be hoping to bounce back from consecutive defeats to Lymington and Christchurch and King feels a trip to the league’s basement side is a good opportunity to do just that.
He said: “No disrespect for Amesbury but they are bottom of the league and they got beat 9-0 in midweek.
“It won’t be the best of conditions up there, I think the pitch will be quite heavy and we will have to have a look and see if we need to play a different way.”
King says he has a number of players out and will continue to field a young side.
“We are trying to make the young players better and if we can improve week on week then we will be in good shape.”
