BOSS Martin Patterson was pleased with the efforts of his Corfe Castle charges – despite the campaign officially being declared null and void by the Football Association.

The Fortress outfit were sitting 10th in the Dorset Premier League table before the season was scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But having won eight of their 25 league games and picked up 27 points in total, Patterson was happy with the way his team had performed up until the premature end.

Corfe’s most recent fixture resulted in a 2-1 victory over Holt United, as they further strengthened a grip on the top 10.

Manager Patterson said: “It was a decent season overall.

“We’ve beaten sides nobody expected us to, but also lost or drew to sides we expected to beat.

“We were probably just about where we aimed for, position wise in the table.

“Standout performances came from the team against Gillingham and Holt - home and away.

“The home game against Holt was a great way for us to finish, where Jack Hector and Andy McCuish paired up at centre-back for the first time and were both brilliant.

“The coaches - Derek, Jamie and Steve have put on some excellent training sessions and we all can’t wait for pre-season.”

Corfe made the step up to the Dorset Premier League in 2018, having won the Dorset Senior League.
